Information: The rare PRE-MOMO Monte-Carlo steering wheel is considered by collectors to be one of the holy grails of motorsport history. Even before MOMO was officially founded, racing driver and entrepreneur Gianpiero Moretti developed these early handcrafted sports steering wheels for racing use in 1964. The Monte-Carlo impressed with its diameter, grippy leather rim, and then-revolutionary ergonomics.
The PRE-MOMO version was produced before the actual trademark registration and therefore bears only early Moretti markings instead of the later MOMO logo. Made from high-quality Anticorodal aluminum and meticulously handcrafted, only a few original examples exist today.
The steering wheel also marks the origin of a motorsport icon: shortly afterwards, Formula 1 world champion John Surtees used a steering wheel developed by Moretti in his Ferrari racing car – the beginning of MOMO’s worldwide success story.
